# Persistent memory for OpenCode with Slowave

> Give OpenCode a local memory that carries across sessions. Slowave adds a remote MCP server and its own instructions file for you.

Slowave gives OpenCode shared, inspectable memory for project decisions, constraints and procedures.

## What you get

* Setup registers Slowave as a remote MCP server in `~/.config/opencode/opencode.json`.
* Setup writes Slowave's instructions to its own file, `~/.config/opencode/slowave-instructions.md`.
* Setup adds that file to OpenCode's `instructions` list. Your `AGENTS.md` stays untouched.
* No manual paste is needed.

## Set up

**1. Install Slowave**

```bash theme={null}
pipx install slowave
```

**2. Preview the changes**

```bash theme={null}
slowave setup --client opencode --dry-run
```

**3. Run setup**

```bash theme={null}
slowave setup --client opencode
```

**4. Restart OpenCode**

Restart so it loads the connection and instructions.

## Check that it works

Start a conversation in OpenCode. The `slowave_*` tools should appear. Then run:

```bash theme={null}
slowave doctor
```

Run `slowave stats` to see recorded sessions.

## Good to know

* Setup detects OpenCode when `~/.config/opencode/` exists.
* OpenCode uses the `mcp` key, not `mcpServers`. Setup handles this.
* OpenCode connects to the same background service as your other agents. It doesn't start a process per session.
* Slowave runs on macOS, Linux and Windows.
* Your prompts and recalled context follow your OpenCode model provider's data handling.

## Troubleshooting

> Check that `opencode.json` has an `mcp.slowave` entry. Run `slowave status --services` and restart OpenCode.

> Check that the path to `slowave-instructions.md` is in the `instructions` list. Run `slowave setup --client opencode` again if it's missing.
