# Uninstall and remove Slowave

> Disconnect Slowave from your agents and keep your memory, or remove everything. Learn what uninstall and purge each do, and how to reinstall later.

Slowave has two removal commands. One keeps your memory. The other deletes it.

> Run `slowave backup` first. Both commands support `--dry-run`, which shows what would happen without changing anything.

> * Deletes the `*.bak.*` copies of your agent config files that setup made
> * Keeps your daily database backups

Neither command removes the Slowave program itself. You remove that in the last step.

## Remove connections and keep memory

**1. Preview**

```bash theme={null}
slowave uninstall --dry-run
```

**2. Uninstall**

```bash theme={null}
slowave uninstall
```

## Remove everything

> `slowave purge` cannot be undone. It asks you to confirm before it deletes anything.

**1. Preview**

```bash theme={null}
slowave purge --dry-run
```

**2. Purge**

```bash theme={null}
slowave purge
```

**3. Delete old backups (optional)**

Purge leaves the `backups` folder so you can still recover. Delete it yourself if you no longer want those copies. See [backup and restore](https://slowave.ai/backup-and-restore.md) for the location.

## Finish up

**1. Clean up Cursor and Claude Desktop**

If you use either one, you pasted Slowave's instructions into its settings by hand. Delete that block by hand too.

**2. Remove the program**

Use the tool you installed with.

pipx uninstall slowave
```

## Reinstall later

Install again and run setup. See the [quickstart](https://slowave.ai/quickstart.md).

slowave setup
```

If you kept your memory, your agents find it again. If you purged, restore a file from [backup and restore](https://slowave.ai/backup-and-restore.md).
