OpenAI logo Slowave gives Codex a local memory. One setup covers the Codex CLI, the desktop app and the IDE extension.

What you get

  • Slowave’s memory tools appear in Codex through MCP.
  • Setup adds the server to ~/.codex/config.toml.
  • Setup adds Slowave’s instructions to ~/.codex/AGENTS.md.
  • All three Codex surfaces share these files. Memories follow your work between them.

Set up

1

Install Slowave

2

3

Run setup

There is no separate Codex desktop target. This one command is enough.
4

Restart Codex

Restart each Codex surface you use.

Check that it works

Start a coding task in Codex. The slowave_* tools should appear and the instructions should be read. Then run this in a terminal:
Run slowave dashboard to see recorded sessions in your browser.

Good to know

  • Setup detects Codex when ~/.codex/ exists. If you set $CODEX_HOME, Slowave uses that folder instead.
  • Slowave runs on macOS, Linux and Windows.
  • Recalled context is sent to the model like any other prompt text.

Troubleshooting

If you have ~/.codex/AGENTS.override.md, Codex reads only that file at global scope. It ignores AGENTS.md. slowave doctor warns you about this. Copy the Slowave block from AGENTS.md into your override file.
Run slowave status --services and restart Codex. Older Codex versions can ignore remote MCP servers unless a compatibility setting is on. Setup doesn’t write that setting. Check your Codex version first.
Check that the slowave_* tools are present and the Slowave block is in the file Codex reads.

Quickstart

Install Slowave and see your first memory.
