Persistent memory for Windsurf with Slowave

Give Windsurf Cascade a local memory that carries across sessions. Slowave connects over MCP and adds its rules to your global rules.

Slowave helps Windsurf Cascade reuse project decisions and constraints across sessions. Windsurf is also listed as Devin Desktop. The setup is the same.

What you get

• Setup adds the Slowave server to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.
• Setup adds Slowave’s instructions to ~/.codeium/windsurf/memories/global_rules.md.
• Global rules apply to every Cascade conversation.
• No manual paste is needed.

Set up

1. Install Slowave

   pipx install slowave
   
2. Preview the changes

   slowave setup --client windsurf --dry-run
   
3. Run setup

   slowave setup --client windsurf
   
4. Restart Windsurf

   Restart or reload Windsurf.

Check that it works

Open a Cascade conversation. The slowave_* tools should appear. Then run:

slowave doctor

Run slowave dashboard to see recorded sessions in your browser.

Good to know

• Setup detects Windsurf when ~/.codeium/windsurf/ exists.
• Slowave runs on macOS, Linux and Windows.
• Memory stays in your local database. Recalled context goes to the connected model under Windsurf’s data handling.

Troubleshooting

The tools don't appear

Run slowave status --services, restart Windsurf and run setup again.

The tools appear but memory isn't used

Check that global_rules.md contains the Slowave block. If not, run slowave setup --client windsurf again.
